LOTTERY FUNDING

It was announced last Thursday, 20th July, 2005 that Celbridge Athletic Club was successful in its recent application to the lottery. We are to receive E120,000 grant towards phase two of our track i.e. the grass track. Hopefully work will start on this as soon as possible. A special word of thanks must be given to Mary Kearns and Geraldine Doyle for all their hard work in preparing this application. It took over six months to prepare and a lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed but we had every confidence in them. Well done and thanks! Although E120,00 was awarded this left us short E60,000 to complete the grass track. An EGM was held to decide how best to fund this and the parents decided that we should fund it with a bank loan to be partially funded from a weekly subscription at training. E3 per athlete or E5 per family has heen agreed. This will obviate the need to have several large fundraisers each year. We can stick with one big fundraiser which this year is the Sponsored Walk. The weekly charge will mean a fairer share of the repayments will be paid by every member. This was proposed from the floor and voted on and agreed. A big thank you to Liam Hyde for all his work over the summer on getting the club house and to Des for all the hard labour in getting the site ready for its placement. Finally a big thank you to Damien in Londis for his generosity with funding of the services for the club house. We are arranging to have toilets installed and is painted and ready for use once the ESB and lights are secured. GRASS TRACK The final stage is now taking place on the grass track. Last week 18th May 07, the contractors moved in and started putting in the last of the drainage. If all goes well we should be able to use this track from September/October.
