A fantastic two days of competition took place in Morton Stadium, Santry over the weekend, where Irelands's top athletes competed for National titles and medals. Sandra Lawler first up to compete won the bronze medal behind Derval O'Rourke and Mairead Murphy in 14.47 secs. This was a great win for Sandra as she is suffering with an injury at present. Claire Brady then competed in the 100m and sailed through her heat and semi final. She finished 3rd in 11.85. Claire will compete in Barcelona on the Irish relay team at the end of the month in the Euorpean Championships. Seye Ogunlewe competing in his first Senior Nationals cruised through his heat and semi final (with plenty of time to look around him!!). He then lined up for the final against stiff competition but ran a great race to finish in the bronze medal position in a time of 10.8 secs to claim his first Senior National Medal. Kieron Stout competed on Saturday in the Men's Shot Putt and finished in 5th position with a magnificent throw of 13.17m. He then competed in the Men's Discus on Sunday and threw 35.75m to finish in 6th position. This is a great achievement for Kieron who will compete in the National Masters Championships in Tullamore in August. |

3/4 July - Tullamore - Christine Campion once again regained her title of u.15 National Hurdles Champion in Tullamore at the weekend in true fighting spirit. Christine in her heat of the 80m hurdles finished in 3rd place and was shocked. However, along with her coach Des Doyle and the support of her fellow Celbridge teammate Sinead Lawler they managed to get her refocused for the final in which Christine led the race from the gun to finish in 1st place and win the gold medal. This showed great focus and mental strength to come back from this 'little glitch' and shows what a talanted athlete she is. Christine later competed in the final of the 100m in which she finished 7th. Congratulations Christine. Sinead Lawler also competed on Saturday and had a fantastic race to finish in 2nd place winning the silver medal in the girls u18 100m hurdles. Sinead was delighted with this and later went on to compete in the 100m, in which she lined up for the final as 2nd fastest after the heats. Unfortunately, with the new rule of 'break and you are out' applied, Sinead anxious to get a good start, broke and was disqualified. However, she can be very proud of her silver medal for the 100m hurdles. Congratulations Sinead Alan Carroll and Vivian Fleischer competed in the boys u14 high jump and girls u16 long jump respectively on the Sunday. Alan had a great competition and jumped 1m45 to finish in 7th place on count back even though 5th, 6th & 7th had the same clearance. Well done Alan. Vivian, nursing a leg injury competed in the long jump and still managed to jump a very good jump of 4m28 to finish in 11th place. Full results can be seen HERE 3 July - Cork City Sports - Seye Ogunlewe competed in the Cork City Sports in the men's B final of the 100m and finished in 1st place in a great time of 11.12 secs Claire Brady competed in an international line up in the ladies 100m and finished in 6th place in a great time of 11.97 secs. and finished in 4th place in the 200m in a time of 24.52 secs. 3 July - Mannheim Germany - Sandra Lawler competed in the 100m Hurdles in Mannheim and finished in 5th place in a great time of 14.53 secs. LEAGUE RESULT - The final leg of the league was held recently in Crookstown. There was a very disappointing turn out of athletes but many were understandably away on holidays. Final Club results are not available at the moment but Alex Shanley was our only overall winner on the day. Alex competing u9 picked up the trophy for overall athlete in u9. Well done Alex, the first of many to come!! RESULT JUST IN: Celbridge Ac finished 3rd in the League. This means that every athlete that competed in 2 or more rounds of the league will get a bronze medal. These medals will be presented at training - details soon - well done to everyone and all the coaches and parents who helped out. |
